To honor Kelli’s memory, we award college scholarships to graduating high school seniors whose work and character reflect Kelli’s spirit.
Joy was our daughter’s middle name, the word also portraits her spirit and her legacy that she left us. Kelli spread JOY wherever she went, whether it was asking someone sitting alone to join her at her lunch table or volunteering in a number of different ways to raising money to aid those in need, both locally and around the world.
Kelli played tennis, so we ask the recipient to play a sport for at least 3 out of 4 years. She was a solid student, so we ask the recipient to have a 3 out of 4 unweighted GPA. Kelli was kind and compassionate and loved to help others. So we ask the recipient to write an essay on how they helped others.
We know that this year’s KJO Memorial Scholarship winner will definitely continue to spread joy and make life better for others because of the compassion and friendliness that she’s shared with soo many. In her essay, she smartly points out that compassion, caring and smiling are all choices we make. We think we’ve made a good choice of our own in selecting her as the recipient of the Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Scholarship. We would like to congratulate Analiese Tisa.
