May 12th, 2016. KJO Scholarship for 2016 Internet Recipient Announced.  This scholarship (based on the internet application category) is a $1000 award renewable for four years.  This is the first of 13 scholarships announced from the KJO Memorial Foundation to the class of 2016 that has been awarded.

Brenda and John O’Laughlin presented this scholarship in the first period “Peer Ministers” class at Mother McAuley High School.  Our presentation was a surprise to the class and to the recipient.  Luckily it wasn’t a surprise to the teacher.

Now a little about the KJO Scholarship award recipient; One of the recommendations wrote “It’s ironic cheerleading is her sport because it also is her mantra & how she lives”.  Another recommendation said “she is a natural leader who is comfortable with all types of people. She excels in the areas of spearheading new initiatives and generating community excitement”

What really drew us to this recipient is her story of being a Kairos leader and the experiences she had leading her group.

This year’s Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Foundation Scholarship for the Internet category is Simone Johnson.

Here’s a link to a story carried by the Patch with quotes from Simone’s teacher.
