It is a pleasure to be here this morning at Fenwick High School.  Award Friday May 3, 2013.

John and I are here today to present the Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior of Fenwick High School.

The Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Foundation was set up 18 months ago in Memory of our Daughter, Kelli Joy O’Laughlin a Freshman at LTHS 2011/12.

Kelli was an avid tennis player, runner and member of the LTHS Tennis Team.  Her Life was taken on October 27th, 2011 when she interrupted a burglary when she came home from school.

Our family wishes that Kelli be remembered for her kindness, her contagious smile, her laugh and her love of life and that she was a friend to everyone.

The mission of the Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Fund is to give young people opportunities to develop their greatest potential of friendship, kindness, leadership skills, confidence as well as their education.

This year we are so proud to say that we will be giving out 6– $2500 scholarships to graduating seniors that have met the criteria & one of the scholarships is going to a graduating senior of Fenwick High School.

The qualifications for the scholarships are as follows:
1) Graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 (un-weighted)
2) Plans for a post secondary education at an accredited institution
3) Participated for at least three years in school sponsored athletic program
4) Requires two recommendations, one from an athletic coach and one from an academic teacher or community / school service sponsor.
5) Requires one essay. :How did I demonstrate my consideration and caring for others?

We are pleased to announce that this person has a  GPA of 3.0+

Member of the National Society of High School Scholars, MVP of Track and Field Event,  Captain of the Basketball Team,

This person had over 130 hours of community service and continues to serve at–J.W. James AME Church Youth Trustee Officer,

Christmas Cheer Volunteer ( feeds the homeless)  Sunday School Assistant Teacher & Financial Assistant,

Assistant Student director of clothing & Food Drives,  seasoned volunteer yard maintenance with Global Estates and most important is a big brother to younger boys that are less fortunate by mentoring with positive support.  This recipient will be attending college at the University of Missouri
