Sports and Activities in High School:

Angelina was a four-year member of the tennis team, working her way up from JV2 freshman year to varsity by senior year.  She was a volunteer for 2 years at our event, Run For Kelli.  The scholarship committee had the pleasure of interviewing Angelina as part of the category 3 scholarship process, it was wonderful to meet her.

Highlights from the Essay:

Angelina wrote about her volunteer experiences at the St Cletus food pantry from 7th-grade through four years of high school. She became the translator for the Spanish speaking population served by the pantry. In addition, she serves on the Social Concerns Committee at St Cletus throughout high school, here’s a description in her own words: “Within the Social Concerns committee we utilize our individual strengths to uplift the families collectively. Being a part of the Social Concern network has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every Thursday I return because over the years I have grown personal connections with many of the families we support. I am dedicated to helping these families in any way I can, whether it be translating or helping find their baby clothes.”

Highlights from the Recommendations:

Here’s an excerpt from a recommendation: “Angelina has been a positive voice for the Hispanic student population from freshman year, always motivated to educate and support students about equity in education. Her intrinsic motivation will not allow her to settle for anything less than her ultimate goals. She is an amazing and determined young woman who will be the change and make a difference in the lives of those around her.”  We are impressed by this description and found her to be a wonderful young woman when meeting her in person during the interviews.

We are happy to add Angelina to the ranks of KJO Memorial Scholarship recipients for 2020. Congratulations!
